Visa Run redeaux

So I’m off for another Visa Run, which if you haven’t been reading this blog for long, I’ll explain briefly.

The work visa I have in Oman allows me to stay in the country 21 days at a time. My shift is 5 weeks on and 5 weeks off, so in the middle of my shift, I have to leave the country and return. It only takes a day, and this was the day.

It’s that time again

Dubai
Yeah…. It looks like this.

Yep, that’s right.

It’s Visa Run time!

I get to leave my desert office for a fun filled, action packed trip to Dubai, U.A.E. and back. All in about 24 hours.

I’ll leave on the morning of the 18th.

It will be fun! I’ll actually get to eat real food and sleep in a real bed!

Ta!

What?

Another reason to cry…

Tanker Overturns, Spilling Whiskey On Ky. Road
Unclear How Much 7,000-Gallon Cargo Spilled

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — It was a “bottoms up” of a different variety. Authorities in Scott County said a tanker truck carrying Canadian Club whiskey overturned Wednesday on U.S. 460 as it was being driven to the Jim Beam distillery in Frankfort.

No other vehicles were involved and Scott County Emergency Management Agency director Jack Donovan told the Lexington Herald-Leader the truck driver wasn’t hurt.

The road was closed while the flammable load was retrieved and the truck uprighted.
Donovan said the tanker was leaking in two places, but it wasn’t clear how much of the 7,000-gallon cargo spilled.

Please, please don’t let a beer truck fall off a bridge or something…..

Quote the Reagan…

Here’s another great quote….

The government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Ronald Reagan

I think there is a ring of truth to this….

Man Sinks Bugatti Veyron in Two Feet of Water

Bugatti Veyron
Please don’t cry…

It was bound to happen…

There’s a lot of media coverage on this, but I just have to tackle it. Here’s my new rule of thumb: “If your day takes a horrible turn for the worst, blame the pelican.”

From La Marque, Tx. comes this news blurb.

According to the Galveston County Daily News, a Lufkin man rocketed his $1.3 million-dollar Bugatti Veyron into two feet of water. The man was driving through the area to look at real estate, when a low-flying pelican distracted him. Or that’s his story and he’s sticking to it.

Sand Storms.

Sansd on the dash…
It is the desert, ya know…

Out here in the desert, when you get to your work site, you usually leave a window open just a bit or you leave the engine running with the air conditioner on. The inside of the car can get very hot. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 degrees. Grab on to the steering wheel when you get in and you stand the good chance of scorching your hands.

So today, like most other days, I left the window down a couple of inches. In the afternoon, the winds came up, and the sand started blowing. Visibility was down to about 100 yards. It was the worst that I had experienced out here.

But wait! I left my window down just a bit!

What happens when you leave your window down in a sand storm? You get sand in your vehicle.

Can you imagine that! Who would have thought! It’s a desert, there’s sand…

Something to remember for next time.

There are more pics of my ‘Desert Days’ here.

Are you ready for some football!

College football games. Babes in attendance.

I’ve noticed something that has me somewhat baffled. Her at camp there is very little to keep one entertained in the evening.

I eat, walk and then watch TV. Sometimes the TV is on a sports station and there may be a ball game on. Either college football or something else. Maybe cricket, basketball, rugby… It could be just about anything.

I’ll take the stairs.

I love this quote by Mitch Hedberg.

I like an escalator because an escalator can never break, it can only become stairs. There would never be an escalator temporarily out of order sign, only an escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience.

I just wish I had said it first…..
