Man Sinks Bugatti Veyron in Two Feet of Water

Bugatti Veyron
Please don’t cry…

It was bound to happen…

There’s a lot of media coverage on this, but I just have to tackle it. Here’s my new rule of thumb: “If your day takes a horrible turn for the worst, blame the pelican.”

From La Marque, Tx. comes this news blurb.

According to the Galveston County Daily News, a Lufkin man rocketed his $1.3 million-dollar Bugatti Veyron into two feet of water. The man was driving through the area to look at real estate, when a low-flying pelican distracted him. Or that’s his story and he’s sticking to it.

He dropped his cell phone during the distraction, no doubt that he was more distracted by the cell phone than the pelican. Nevertheless, he reportedly jerked the wheel in response to the bird, hit a muddy slope, and landed in the lagoon. This was just north of Galveston island.

According to the paper, the Veyron’s 1001-hp W-16 engine “gurgled like an outboard motor” for about 15 minutes before it died. Somewhere, Ettore Bugatti is spinning in his grave. For what it’s worth, I’m bawling like a Sanjaya fan…

Video of the sunken Bug being extracted from the bog is available on YouTube. Try not to weep openly in front of coworkers, but if you should, you can always blame the pelican…

That’s what I did anyway.

Here’s the first news story.

As it turns out, there was another person that was videoing the Bug as it was running down the road and veered off into the drink. I’m sure that it’s available on YouTube as well if you search for it. No pelican in sight on that vid.

I still cried for the car….
