It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted anything of substance. Call it busy with life, or just plane ol’ lazy. I really don’t know where to start.
When the Oil Marked took a downturn, my contract was pulled. Had to get my gear back from Omah, and not all of it was returned. I guess Omani customs went through it and decided what could leave the country and what could not. Or maybe is was someone at Oxy. Doesn’t matter really.
Retuning to work in the states was a little tough as it was an unplanned ending and my boss really had nothing for me to do. I had some odd one or two day jobs with stretches of nothing in between.
A couple of jobs cropped up, one for a milk plant near home, and a yougurt plant in San Antonio. Again, travel on Monday mornings and back on Friday evenings. The work was good and I learned some new things about the automation systems they had there. Also got to do code development, converting one program format into another.
I ended up getting put on a job in Dallas doing Building Automation for a pretty big client. I was glad to have steady work, but being away from home every week was tough. Driving to Dallas on Monday morning and back to Houston Friday afternoon.
Then there was Covid. Nasty stuff. You readers may remember what it was like. I got laid off supposedly because of a downturn in business. What a joke. Two days later I was asked to come back as a contractor, so I set up a company and went back to work for the company that laid me off. Lots more about the fiasco with that company that will not be talked about here.
Job searching began and was not going quite as planned, but as luck would have it, I was contacted and as a ‘Temp to Hire’ for just over a year, then again let go. Again, luck prevailed as I was doing a part time gig for one of the former companies clients on a once a month basis on a Saturday. When the T-to-H let me go I asked the contact at my part time gig if I could go on a Friday. He said ‘Sure, but I thought you could only do this on a weekend?’. I let him know that I was now available to go at anytime, at least until I have a permanent job. At the time, I had 3 potential jobs lined up so things were looking pretty good. He said that we needed to have a chat and when could I come into the office. I did and a few days later I had a job offer. I accepted. And I’m still there.
That is pretty much it for the work situation. During this timeframe, several life events occured. My wife’s montner passed, we moved twice, Many dogs came and went over the Rainbow Bridge. Not sure when exactically, my did moved to Indiana and got married. A few cars bought and sold. I can not praise Subaru enough. Hands down, one of the best cars I’ve owned. Went to Indiana to help my dad around the farm and to get his collection of cars running. And this came to rest in our driveway.
The Blue T-Bird, not the other two. NOw I’m cleaning out the garage (long overdue) to get this baby bird in it.
I feel like this a a good place to break off and get back to the garage cleaning.
